Why are Christian Ideas Also Plain Common Sense?

Many people assume that biblical truth and common sense are two different things. In reality, they often go hand in hand. Christians believe God has revealed Himself in two ways: through general revelation, which includes the created world and the moral law written on the human heart, and through special revelation, the Bible, which clearly reveals God's character, His plan of salvation, and how we ought to live. As the Apostle Paul explains, God's eternal power and divine nature are evident in creation (Romans 1:20), while our consciences bear witness to basic moral truths (Romans 2:14–15). Scripture then provides the fuller and more complete revelation of God's truth.

This helps explain why many biblical principles simply "make sense," even to people who do not share the Christian faith. Honesty builds trust. Hard work produces opportunity. Strong families strengthen communities. Justice should be impartial. Every human life possesses inherent dignity. Keeping our promises matters.

These aren't merely religious ideas—they're principles woven into the fabric of creation by the God who designed it. When individuals and societies live according to them, people generally flourish. When they reject them, the consequences eventually become apparent.
